3 years ago, I was a few PBRs deep, and shakin’ my tail feather in a pair of retro red boots with a couple of my besties. I had previously been in a bad routine of serial dating and was in a rare place of not being concerned about boys (!) and was simply having fun with my friends. I was at the height of my yoga teacher training and had a budding relationship with a wild stallion of a gal by the name of Fatima. She saw the universe through astrology…like hi what’s your name? Cool when’s your birthday? Instantly upon meeting I was intrigued by her big curious eyes and bright blue hair. One evening we happened to be sitting next to each other, when we were let out of yoga school early. We shyly looked at each other, smiled, and decided to go out for beers. We had little in common, but quickly became close friends.
Fatima took me to the PBR shake your tail feather party I first mentioned, and I also brought along my long time gal pal, Adaline. Whenever I accompanied Fatima to one of her friend’s parties, I felt the freedom to wear whatever craziness I wanted….which was awesome. So for this night I threw on a black crop top that read WHATEVER, silver sequined booty shorts that I had not worn since I was Katy Perry for Halloween, and the red boots. It was one of those super cool parties that start about midnight and you have to hike through a few alleys and climb multiple staircases to get to. Despite having a blast and being “off boys,” I could not help but notice a handsome guy staring at me…all night. Finally at roughly 4am, the mystery man approached me. We talked for about 3 minutes before he asked for my phone number. He called 2 days later and we arranged a date for the upcoming weekend. Drumroll please….mystery man is now my husband. The lesson in this love story, is that you really do meet the one when you stop looking. So until your special someone comes along, enjoy life and beer fueled dance parties with your friends. The other lesson is it is possible to meet the one while you are out having a good time, so party on y’all!
Last night we celebrated 3 years ago where we first met at that life changing rave (Correction, I call it a rave, he says it was absolutely not a rave. He refers to it as a party he was far too old to be at that looked like a Pepsi commercial). I threw on the lucky red boots and we went for a late dinner at Bavette’s Bar and Boeuf. This was the perfect choice for a special date night. The second we walked in I loved the romantic 20’s inspired atmosphere. We were purposely early and enjoyed a couple of delicious cocktails in the intimate parlor. We then moved upstairs to the sparkly classic dining area. The food was exquisite. We started with a fabulous order of oysters that seriously melted in my mouth. Next we shared a killer wedge salad topped with bacon, that I will likely dream about, a delightful crab cake, and a perfectly cooked steak. The service was excellent, the staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. I highly recommend Bavette’s for a special dinner date!
