On a Quest for Victoria Secret Style hair…

Hello beauties! I am continuing our beauty series today, with some serious bombshell hair talk! I haven’t talked much about hair, because I truthfully kinda suck at styling hair.  For me, great hair comes from the inside…inside the hair salon.  Luckily Chicago is full of fabulous salons to pick from!  I have been blessed with a couple of great girlfriends who are stylists at Marianne Strokirk, so that has been my “home” Chicago salon (Mimi and Ashley are fantastic colorists, and Bonnie is amazing at men’s and women’s cuts!)  When an opportunity came my way to write a story reviewing bayalage color and a haircut at Mixed Co. Salon, I jumped at the chance to shake things up with a new salon experience.

Mixed Co. Salon is a top notch salon in River North, that has been highly rated in a variety of magazines, including VOGUE, Instyle, and Allure.  The salon has a sleek and modern decor, while maintaining a comfortable and friendly vibe. The walls are colorfully decorated with specially selected pieces of art, all created by local artists.  The artwork changes regularly, to keep things fresh!  I was warmly greeted as soon as I arrived, and offered a glass of wine, coffee, or sparkling water.  My three favorite beverages…off to a solid start!  I then sat down for a consult with the owner Patrick, who would be coloring my hair, and John, who would be cutting my locks.  Both gentlemen were uber professional, but also really fun to chat with (every gal is looking to hash out some celebrity gossip with their stylist, so fun is critical!)  When Patrick asked me what my dream hair looks like, I of course said, “Victoria Secret model hair!”  Patrick explained balayage hair color would be the best method to get those beachy natural highlights, that Victoria Secret models and celebrities are famous for. Patrick is the founder of Painted by Patrick, a comprehensive balayage hair coloring process, and he has been nationally recognized for his abilities in the art.  In short, I was in great hands!  Balayage works on all hair colors, provides a natural and classic look, and allows longer stretches between visits. I absolutely loved the result!  The change was subtle, yet really amazing! My husband commented I looked great when he got home…but he couldn’t figure out what was different…which I consider a giant success!  Every glam girl should strive to look natural and true to herself…her best possible self that is!

For my haircut with John, I requested just a simple trim. Typically my haircuts take very little time…however John’s precise method had me in the chair much longer than usual. The result was the best cut I have had in ages!  My length had barely changed as requested, but my hair felt so healthy and fresh!  Time flew by chatting with John. He recently moved back to Chicago after spending over 4 years in Hong Kong!  He worked as an advanced educator for Toni&Guy, and then moved on to style hair at the Four Seasons, Hong Kong’s top luxury salon.  He’s happy to be back in Chi-town at Mixed Co. Salon, and we Midwesterners are lucky to have him!

Salon for celebrity style color, fabulously fresh cuts, and a sleek and friendly salon experience.  Big thanks to Patrick and John for collabing with XOXO…y’all will be seeing me again! Wishing everyone a great rest of the week full of love, happiness, and good hair days!
